We cannot talk about waiting on Jesus without discussing the person whose wait was the most tangible—Mary. Mary waited nine months for the birth of her son and her Savior.
But why was Mary favored? Out of all the righteous virgins in Israel, why was she chosen to carry the Savior of the world? The Bible doesn’t explicitly tell us why she was chosen. All we know is that Mary found favor in the sight of the LORD. Through the text, we gain insight into why Mary was chosen.
David is hands down one of my favorite people in the Bible. If there were a Mount Rushmore for the most influential people in the Bible, David would easily sit atop that mountain. God Himself testified that David was “a man after [His] own heart,” an honor not bestowed on anyone else in the Bible.
In studying Moses’ life, we see a clear pattern of behavior: Moses believes God, goes to the Israelites, faces opposition, and then panics. In comparison to Abraham, it feels like Moses does not trust God at all.
Rebekah’s story is the most exciting story to me during this entire journey because her story was unexpected treasure.
Just like Isaac, her story is sandwiched between two other generations: Sarah (Abraham’s wife) and Leah and Rachel (Jacob’s wives). The “in between” seasons might seem boring or unimportant but God does significant work during those times.
Let’s take a look at Rebekah’s life to see the significant work that God did through her.
Abraham is known as the “Father of all faith” and honestly with good reason. Galatians 3:6 says “So also, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,’ Understand, then, that those who have faith as sons of Abraham.” Physically and spiritually, Abraham’s life led to us Christians placing our faith in Jesus today.
Eve does not have the most positive PR given her role in the fall of man, but let us not forget—she was not alone.
The first promise of the Messiah was tied to Eve and her seed. I wonder how she felt when she gave birth to her sons. Did she wonder if they would be the promise fulfilled?
The mere appearance of God in your situation guarantees your victory, so act like it. Walk in your victory and keep fighting.
A faith that cannot be shaken can only get there because it was so shaken that it becomes sure, certain, and steadfast.
What do you do after you receive the promise you waited for? Do you treat it as mundane, or do you treasure it because you know how long you waited for it?
Rightfully so, today’s discussion is centered around Jesus, taking a closer look at Jesus as a Child and His childhood as the One who was promised.
